One day at a time, sweet Jesus

Well as much as I wish Jen felt up to writing this post, our friend still needs just a little more time.  So many of you have asked about the patient and her progress, so we thought it might be good to let everyone know she is still in the hospital.  She truly does appreciate all of the kind words of encouragement through the blog comments, Facebook, and texts, so please keep those coming.  I think the best way to describe this hospital stay is Jen is literally taking it one day at a time (the ‘sweet Jesus’ kind not the Valerie Bertinelli & MacKenzie Phillips kind).

Speaking of sweet Jesus… Jen did tell me that all of the quiet time she’s had at the hospital has actually been a huge blessing as she’s able to spend a lot of time with the Lord.  I thought this was especially poignant because if you know Jen well, you rarely see her without an entourage of friends or other people around.  There was something really pure in the picture she painted of this precious time, and it was a good reminder to SLOW DOWN and declutter our time if you will.  How a bald gal hooked up to countless IV’s while eating hospital food continues to inspire is beyond me.  Oh how I love my friend.

Jen’s pain has lessened a bit and she is starting to slowly wean off the heavy stuff.  She still doesn’t have a discharge date, but it seems they are at least moving in that direction.  In the meantime, she is scheduled to start a new chemo this week, which feels like progress.  There are lots of other items she will update you on when she takes the writing reigns back (like MRI results, no hot water in the shower, velcro tank tops & more Linc visits), but we are both weary and this is all I’ve got tonight.

And because apparently you don’t feel like taking a lot of pics when you are in pain, I am reduced to using my own bitmoji to sign off…

Much love to all,

  1. Thank you for the update Jamie. One minute, one hour, one day at a time —- with our Lord fueling each second. Jennifer my prayer is that you can breathe in the love sent from the Lord through his people far and near as you face this night, this next day and so on…sitting with the pain, while sitting with the love that surrounds you. May you sense Big Love of the Lord in each second.

  2. Sweet Jen! I know your soul is anchored in the Lord! Just like I know He hears all of our prayers!!! I will continue to pray for you and your family! Lots of love and hugs to you and dear sweet Jamie!

You still amaze me with your look on life , your love for others , and the Trust and witness you have to a watching world . Thank you for an amazing example of where your strength comes from . 7. Thank you for showing us what this verse looks means…” Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, persecutions, and difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10. The greers love you!!!

  8. Dear Jen, You don’t know me, but I feel I am at least acquainted with you through your blog and through Melanie’s book, Nobody’s Cuter Than You and her blog, Big Mama. It was through her blog that I started to get to know about you and your cancer journey. All of these writings have been some of the most profound things I’ve ever read. They are right up there with Anne Frank’s diary! I can’t get enough of them! They feed my soul and all point me toward our Savior, Jesus. You can call me Yankee Mama as I am from the North (Iowa), but have lived in the southwest (NM) and now, Texas for the last 40 plus years. I love all things Texas and am fascinated by the Southern way of life. You young women, yourself, Melanie, Gulley, Tiff, and Jamie are, for me, the epitomy of the southern/Texan way of life. And that includes the way you love each other and love Jesus. You are in my prayers daily. I grieve and cry for your struggles like I personally know you. You amaze me with each blog post. Please keep your sweet spirit and your positive outlook. It and Jesus are the things that are getting you through this journey. And thanks, Jamie for filling in for your friend. Bless you both!

  9. Jamie, thanks for the update. Praying things continue in this direction and that our sweet friend will be out of the hospital soon. Jen knows all too well our circumstances and will understand that “One day at a time, Sweet Jesus,” is the daily prayer and song of praise in our home. God is so good to all of us. Amen! Sending big hugs to y’all.

  10. So thankful for this update, Jamie. Even those of us who only know Jen through her blog are very fortunate to be allowed “in” to share in her struggles. Here is some Truth for her (and the rest of us) to reflect on: “But now, this is what the LORD says– He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” Isaiah 43:1-3a Still praying in Idaho.

  11. Sweet Jen,
You are in my prayers beautiful child of God. I know you are loving on others as they minister to you. I am reminded this morning of Mike’s recent two weeks in the ICU. He asked me often to read his “Caring Bridge” posts and they gave him such comfort. May you be comforted today in the Truth. He’s got this! AND you are evangelizing in His name courageously. I love you sweet Jen.

  12. Hoping you find encouragement in this verse. Thank you for reminding us time and time again of God’s wonderful works – even in the midst of pain and suffering. – “But as for me, the nearness of God is my good. I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.” Psalm 73:28
